Here's how the story goes :
In Chiangmai I attended a basic Thai cooking lesson. A small group consist of 10 people. My hubby didn't join in though but he was an observer & my photographer :)
There were people from around the world, namely USA, England, Venezuela, Sicily, n Malaysia!
First we discussed on what's the majority choice of dishes we wished to cook.. We get to choose 4types of Thai dishes. That were(for me) Spring Roll, Pad-Thai, Green Curry & Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango!
We were all so excited n had so much of fun discussing & laughing :)
She's our cooking instructer, Indy. We were brought by her to visit a local Thai wet market nearby on foot. Basically to show us the types of ingredients for Thai Cooking! Besides, there's a little organic garden behind the school which we did a quick tour on that part too! Being an Asian myself many Thai ingredients were rather familiar... Before, I do cook Simple Thai meals at home. Especially green curry! My Ingredients are almost all ready ones can be bought from the supermarket shelves. After this lesson, Im feeling more confident to cook my next curry paste, yes from scratch!
Heading to local wet market.
There she goes again. Talk Ingredients introductions....
From the top: Palm sugar, I missed out what was the one below. Could be the dried palm sugar!
While walking back scenes :)A closer snap shot of Meang Kum. Consist of : gingers, shallots, chillies, roasted peanuts, toasted coconut meat, betel-leaves, sweet syrup & sliced lime with the skin.
That's how to eat. Don't forget to say chok dee! Means good luck!! Bon Appetito!!Time to taste!
Cutting n chopping, not something I did for the 1st time...I've learned to cook at a very tender age...I only cook meatless dishes, yes I'm a vegetarian!
While we were busy cooking our own 2courses meals, Indy placed the sticky rice to steam in a rattan basket :) u knw the secret now :)
Next in Q : making curry paste from scratch! There are 3 types of curries chosen by each individual! Curries ingredients for : Massaman, Red & Green. So if I chose green curry, I need not worry about about the cooking methods for the 2types, we all njoyed the best of both worlds, in a way...
I chose 'high school' level of spiciness, but it didn't taste as spicy anyway...:p
Preparing the batter
Congrats! We've made it!!
Bon appetite and thank you for the great yet authentic Thai food dinner!
We enjoyed ourselves to the max n happy tasting our very own cooked Thai meals, yay!!
Happening on the same day:
We went to the Art Museum on that morning before the cooking session. Although I missed the eye tricked muse in Singapore but I get to visit here in Chiangmai :)
